Catalonia is building its own metaverse world

The government hopes to make Barcelona a digital hub by offering university students training camps to develop their skills alongside a range of skills programmes.

Daniel Marco, chief innovation officer of Catalonia, talked about some of the key efforts the government is working on to make the region a digital hub, in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph editor-in-chief Alex Cohen.

Marco took over as director of the SmartCatalonia Government Strategy in 2014 and took a supervisory role in the project to transform Catalonia into a global “Smart Country”. Saying that the government is trying to build a Catalonian metaverse called Cataverse, he made the following sentences:

“Cataverse will be connected with the Catalan language and Catalan culture. What we want to have in the metaverse that we are trying to build is that the Catalans who are doing something for their culture can carry it to the metaverse as well.”

The Minister of Innovation of Catalonia also continued to shed light on the government’s plans to make Barcelona a digital hub. He said that a lot will depend on talents and that the government has developed various policies and university programs to popularize these talents and talents among young people.

“We have very strong policies to train young talent from universities, but we also develop skills programs a lot like boot camps and other events because we need different talents and profiles.”

He added that the government is trying to keep the balance of both, namely to train new talents and to attract more talents with a friendly working environment
